As far back as the late 1800’s, Deadwood
is known to have celebrated the Chinese New Year. Deadwood’s
first mayor, Sol Star, took an active role in the early celebrations.
The celebrations continued for several decades, well into
the early 1900’s.
During this time, Deadwood was
host to the second largest Chinese population in the United
States, second only to San Francisco, thanks to the opportunities
to find work in the gold mines, railroads, and to establish
business enterprises of their own.
In 1990 the Chinese New
Year Celebration returned to Deadwood and is proudly hosted
by Miss Kitty’s Casino and
Chinatown Café’. The celebration of
the Chinese culture and these proud people has become a
colorful and much anticipated traditional event.
In addition to being home to the Chinese New Year Celebrations,
Miss Kitty’s has an exciting environment with a variety
of machines offering the latest in gaming technology and
the friendliest staff in town.
While you are there,
stop in our Beam Room Bar (Aptly named because it houses
a collection of antique Jim Beam Bottles.) and enjoy a
drink from one of our many top-shelf liquors.
Once you have quenched your thirst, head up the stairs
to Deadwood’s legendary Chinatown Café, where
you can feast on traditional Chinese cuisine. Our recently
remodeled Chinatown Banquet Room is perfect for special
events and meetings and can comfortably seat up to fifty
people.
The Double D Hangout Bar and Grill. Winter Hours are Wednesday thru Sunday 9am till 9pm serving breakfast all day.
